John Corbett Way
John Corbett was born on June 12th 1817 in Brierley Hill, Staffordshire to Joseph and Hannah Corbett. His father was a canal boatman at the Delph beside the Dudley Canal. John also became a very experienced boatman through the family business. At the age of 29, following an apprenticeship, he became a fully qualified engineer. He began his tremendous involvement and commitment to the manufacture of salt at Stoke Works in 1854. John Corbett was a much respected philanthropist and the whole area of Stoke Works and Droitwich Spa benefited greatly by his generosity.
